About Us

The DancEdge Co was founded in 2002.

Classes are held under the direction of the Principal Keirstin Long who is a Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD), London, Imperial Society of Teachers and Dancing( AISTD),London and Certified in Stott Pilates (Canada).

Over the years the school has been successfully involved in numerous professional productions and performances and has staged annual performances at the end of each year.

We aim to bring the art of Theatre and Dance to all students who love to perform.

Working towards each student’s own ability and excellence we focus on enjoyment and self achievement.

While examinations are a strong direction of the school, they are not the ultimate aim.  Motivation in the school is not directed by rewards or competitions but by the love of performance and self confidence. This then becomes the conditioning that they carry through life.

The DancEdge Co specialises in training children who wish to learn Dance in its authenticity, making no compromise in the discipline that has to be inculcated in both the professional and the amateur student. The students are encouraged to strive for the technical proficiency that brings out a sound understanding of the body.  This then becomes the conditioning that brings forward the ease, visual appeal and joy of dance.

Motivation in the school is not directed by rewards or competitions.  The school works by the principle that inner discipline and love for dance will bring forward the student’s own ability and excellence.  Therefore in pursuing their love of Dance, the students can go out in the world with confidence as holistic and well-rounded individuals.  The values of life are thereby transmitted through learning Dance.

I Dreamed (by Ray A. Lingenfelter)

I dreamed I stood in a studio and watched two sculptors there, the clay they used was a young child’s mind and they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher: the tools she used were books and music and art.
One was a parent with a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done, they were proud of what they had wrought. For the things they had worked into the child could never be sold or bought.

And each agreed she would have failed if she had worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school, and behind the teacher stood the home!
